The night of her thirty-fourth birthday, she and her friends spend a fun-filled evening at a local bar where her friends dare her to approach a man, and spend the night with him. Olivia's not one to turn down a dare, especially from her old college pals.
Darren "Dare" Shalvis has given up on women. He's tired of being chased for his money, good looks, and prowess in bed. He prefers to meet a woman who, for once, wants nothing more from him than mere conversation. If only the woman asking him to spend the night with her wasn't his favorite legal secretary.
Accepting a dare has never been so tempting ...
They spend the next couple of days falling in bed and falling in love, but when our heroine is accused of leaking information to a rival law firm, she can’t believe Dare didn’t stand up for her.
The story is good, and the sex is exciting, and with the black moment, I was expecting a much more complicated resolution of the problems faced by the couple. In fact, the resolution didn’t seem to fit the story or the severity of the transgression. The bad guy was barely mentioned before the end, so there was no suspenseful buildup. I might have expected a big revealing scene, but we didn’t get that either.
Dare is worth a fast read on an afternoon at the beach or cottage, but it could have been so much more.
